Golden Care Instant Grey

Is Golden Care Instant Grey Teak protector a good product?

To be able to answer that question we need to know what your priorities are. For example, after applying instant grey the grain in the timber becomes a lot less protruding and doesn’t necessarily look like timber anymore.

Does it look good?

Naturally, that is in the eye of the beholder, but we certainly think so. If you are after a naturally weathered Teak colour Golden Care Teak White Wash is your product. Here is a link to read more about white wash compared to instant grey.

Is it easy to apply?

Yes, very much so. To apply Golden Care products in general is easy, but there are a few common mistakes that we cover below.

What are the most common mistakes when applying Golden Care Teak protector Instant Grey?

  1. Not doing enough preparation work, eg sanding. Without a good prep job the product will eventually peel.

  2. Not putting enough layers of Golden Care Teak Shield on to protect it.

  3. Trying to fix mistakes and making it worse. If you need to fix a mistake, re-sand.

  4. Applying it in poor weather conditions. Wait until the weather is nice and warm. Read more on their website.

How long does it last?

This does depend on how much sun exposure it gets, but the beauty of grey colour is that when it wears off, the teak underneath goes grey. However, we would say two years until you need to re apply.

Do I need to prepare the timber beforehand?

100% of the time. Any product you will ever put on timber will bite better when the timber is clean and sanded. The final outcome of any staining project is dependent on the preparation job. The better preparation, the better the outcome.
